The Battle for the Backside: Pies Against COVID-19 Sponsored by Runhappy will be raising funds for The Jockey Club Safety Net Foundation (http://www.tjcfoundation.org/) through donations surrounding a charity pie-eating contest Apr. 25 at 1:30 p.m. ET. All donations will benefit Thoroughbred racing's backstretch community in an effort to alleviate financial burdens incurred during the novel coronavirus pandemic.
The contest, sponsored by Runhappy, Pyrois Media, and Julie Witt, will offer racing fans the chance to support any of the 10 entrants, each of whom will attempt to be the fastest pie eater of the field. Proof of each fundraising “bet,” which carry no odds nor any financial payout, entails a screenshot or receipt of donation to The Jockey Club Safety Net Foundation sent to the event's social media pages and will serve as a chance to win one of a variety of prizes.
Participants in the contest are: Alex Sausville, Bailey Armour, Gloria Houston, Jessica Paquette, Josh Burns, Penelope Miller, Sophie Shore, Steven Cargill, Travis Wilson and John Cannie.
Matt Dinerman, track announcer at Golden Gate Fields, has donated his services to “call” the battle for fans watching at home, who will be able to watch the contest via Facebook, Twitter, and Zoom.
